Tom Block was offically the "2007 National High Points Winner, Mens Level 3" at the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association. The CMSA plaque is now hanging on his wall alongside a picture of the horse that made this award possible, his Missouri Foxtrotter "Cloud". "It was a combination of attending lots of events, particularly the bigger ones, and in generally finishing in the top quarter to one-third in my class," Tom said. "Slow and steady won that race. That, plus having a horse that just loves to travel and be involved in Cowboy Mounted Shooting, are the elements that earned me the 2007 award." By arrangement, Tom gives Cowboy Mounted Shooting demonstrations at the Ranch. After a number of general horsemanship training sessions with noted Dressage instructor Pierre Cousyn, Tom Block competed at the Atlantic Coast Classic National match of the Cowboy Mounted Shooters Association (CMSA) in February, 2010. In the Cavalry class Saturday Night Showcase Finals, Tom and his horse Comet (an 8 year old quarter horse/paint gelding) ran the 10 balloon course in 29.711 seconds while cleanly shooting all of the targets. Out of the eight finalists that competed that night, Tom and Comet finished in second place. |
